New Leaf Outreach Society
Phase 1 Finalist
Newleaf Outreach Society is a peer-based organization. Its members are people with lived and living experience of substance use. While being a frontline harm reduction, overdose prevention and drug user advocacy organization, it is, at its core, a drug user group.
The POW-R (Peer Overdose Witness Response) project utilizes a community-based participatory action research methodology to empower and compensate existing peer-networks to conduct meaningful research, and data collection within their community.
The objectives include, but are not limited to, helping effectively inform the overdose response by continuously collecting never-before-seen data, and highlighting the need to meaningfully engage peers in discussions around policy reforms with the greatest impact on people who use drugs.
