Stremler Lab

The group: The Stremler research lab at the University of Toronto focuses on improving sleep and related health outcomes for children and parents.

The idea: Its submission, the PHASStrak (Physical Activity, Sleep, Sedentary behaviour tracking) App pairs with a wearable sensor for real-time data capture and analysis, thereby extending it work in optimizing objective measurement of sleep to physical activity and sedentary behavior. The idea could enhance public health monitoring in Canada in four ways: objective sleep data will be collected for the first time; device cost to measure all three health behaviours is significantly lower than devices currently used to measure only physical activity; significant personnel time and lost data costs savings will be realized given real time sampling and automated data analysis; high penetration of mobile devices amongst Canadians and across geographical regions is leveraged.
